Project Update summer 2021
Following the lockdown in 2020 as our cafes, shops and other visitor attractions are getting up and running again we will be revisiting them all and updating, renewing and (hopefully) expanding the list of Refill Points in town.
16th June saw World Refill Day demonstrating once again how important it is to refill and reuse to avoid the use of single use plastic bottles, especially for water. A recent report highlighted just how vital it is to halt the pollution of our planet caused by water bottles.
Here in Arundel not only do we have the public drinking fountain but a host of caring sharing people who are keen to support us.

Project update autumn 2019
Well we had a target of 10 Refill points in town for 2019. We haven’t quite made it – we have 9 refill points signed up. But we do have more people interested including the Town Hall and we will get onto it in early 2020.
So who are the lovely businesses who have signed up?
- The Swan Hotel
- Roly’s Fudge Shop
- Arundel Museum
- Tarrant Street Espresso
- The King’s Arms pub
- Zimmer Stewart Gallery (who also have there own water bottle for sale)
- The town drinking fountain on the quay
- Edgecumbes Edge cafe
They are all now available on the Refill app – go to https://refill.org.uk/get-the-refill-app/ to download the app and don’t forget to check it out when you are out visiting another town.
Project launch how did it go?
Brilliantly. It was a real success with lots of visitors, some existing Arundel Agenda 21 supporters and some who have never heard of us! It is so good to be able to talk about what we have been doing.
Our Mayor Lucy Ashworth came along to cut the cake (and ate a bit too) and MP Nick Herbert visited, taking part in the competition to win a Chilly’s water bottle by answering a few questions on the Refill scheme. Thanks go to both of them for their support of this project.
To celebrate and launch our Refill Arundel project we are running an event at The Victoria Institute in Tarrant Street on 19th Jan 11.00 – 2.00.
Come along and learn about the project:
- See how you can help by volunteering or if you are a business by signing up to refill water bottles.
- Find our more about plastics waste and what we can do about reducing it.
- Have a chance to win one of 20 super Chilly water bottles
We look forward to seeing you there.
Arundel Agenda 21 will also have a stand at the Community Fayre being run by Arundel Town Council on the same day at the Town Hall. A chance to find out what groups there in Arundel are and how you can join in.
A day to put in your diaries.
Arundel Agenda 21 has now signed up to the Refill Project, an award-winning campaign to prevent plastic pollution at source by making it easier to reuse and refill your bottle instead of buying a new one.
So you will start to see stickers popping up around town to show you where you can refill water bottles. Starting with our marvellous drinking fountain we have already signed up The Swan Hotel, Gaskyns and The Kings Arms pub.
Look out for the Refill signs in windows and come to the launch 11.00 – 2.00 19th January at The Vic, Tarrant Street to learn more about the project and a chance to win a Chilly Water bottle.
The Arundel Agenda 21 water project is about avoiding the pollution and waste of energy, resources and money associated with bottled water.

Tap water is regulated to higher standards than bottled water and comes out the same in blind tastings. So go for tap!
We have installed a community drinking fountain on the Town Quay outside the Arundel Brewery shop. You can fill up with our versatile AA21-designed Arundel Water Bag which holds 500ml. It folds small for your pocket and also withstands boiling water and freezing. It is available from the following places in Arundel: Arundel Museum, Arundel Lido, Gaskins.
The Refill Project
Arundel Agenda 21 are joining a growing number of cities and towns in encouraging people towards refilling water bottles with tap water rather buying new.
Refill is a National, practical tap water campaign that aims to make refilling your bottle as easy, cheap and convenient as possible by introducing refill stations on every street.
The campaign works by connecting people who are looking for water with thousands of local business, transport hubs and public spaces where they can Refill for free. Anyone can download the free app to find Refill Stations near them where they can refill for free on the go. Participating cafes, bars, restaurants, banks, galleries, museums and other businesses simply sign up to the app and put a sticker in their window – alerting passers-by that they’re welcome to come on in and fill up their bottle. There are now more than 14,000 Refill Stations on the app in the UK alone – including railway stations, airports and high street chains.

We started by highlighting our own water fountain on the refill site. Now we want as many shops, cafes, restaurants, banks, museums and galleries in town to join in. Watch this space!
